On May 27, 2007 we made the 620+ trip from Norfolk, Virginia to our home in Ohio. In the late afternoon we stopped at Buchannon By God West Virginia for a bite to eat and also to take a quick look at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Not having paid much attention to railroads we were quite surprised to drive by the Appalachia & Ohio RR engine terminal. The A&O operates on part of the old Baltimore & Ohio mainline. The engine terminal was pretty full so we wandered around taking the photos that you see below.

MOW = MAINTENACE OF WAY
JANUARY 18, 2008
MARION, OHIO
The two diamonds at Marion take a heavy beating, especially from the coal trains on both NS and CSX so they are in constant need of maintenance. On a cold but sunny January 18 MOW forces from both railroads were working on their respective diamonds.
THE C&O - ERIE/BIG 4 DIAMONDS
Since I spent the afternoon sitting across the tracks from two NS backhoes I decided to take a few photos of them when the action slowed down. So, behold, a roster shot of a NS backhoe.
Towards the end of the afternoon two NS MOW workers load a backhoe onto a trailer in preparation for their assigned work tomorrow. The trailer was kind of neat in that it worked on a see-saw basis and once the backhoe crossed the center of gravity the trailer moved back into its travel position.
The backhoe has been tied down to the trailer and the trailer hitched to the dump truck and will be ready to go in the morning.
